| Wonderful whodunit |
As one of my kids put it, it's rare to find an exciting movie where all of the bad guys get what's coming to them and all of the good guys make it to the end. This is one of those rare movies.
U.S. President Ashton is attending an antiterrorist summit meeting in Spain. Minutes before he is to appear and shake the hand of the Spanish President, a terrorist threat is confirmed. And his double is sent in his place. The pretend president is shot twice and a bomb goes off in the building where he was standing, killing hundreds. From there on, you see the film from six different viewpoints, flashing back in time to noon and then going forward 23 minutes.
First you see the viewpoint of the GNN (like CNN) news crews. Then one of the secret service agents (Dennis Quaid). Then through the eyes of a Spanish cop who is betrayed by his girlfriend, who is one of the terrorists. Then an American tourist (Forrest Whitaker) who videotapes practically everything. Then through the President's (John Hurt) eyes. And finally through the terrorists' viewpoints. If you can get past the camerawork, which will give you a headache after awhile, the movie is very suspenseful and has a lot of twists and turns. Also very informative as to how secret service protects the President and how terrorists really operate.
