Cortese spent three seasons starring in Veronica's Closet, opposite Kirstie Alley. He was also a series regular in The Third Coast and had recurring roles in The Single Guy, That's Life and Melrose Place. He has made guest appearances in What I Like About You, In Laws, Seinfeld, Andy Richter Controls the Universe, Inside Schwartz and Caroline in the City. He also starred in the made-for-television movies Triangle, The Lottery and Fire on the Mountain.
In addition, he hosted MTV Sports and other specials, including MTV Rock & Jock and MTV Spring Break.
In film, Cortese co-starred in After Sex, opposite Brooke Shields. He also appeared in Public Enemies and had a cameo in Demolition Man, starring Sylvester Stallone.
Cortese lives in Los Angeles with his wife and son.
